Accusations are stressful issues for an RN or LVN, except when a nurse attorney assists you against the case. On or about March 7, 2018, while employed as a Registered Nurse in the role of Director of Nursing, the RN misappropriated sixty (60) tablets of Hydromorphone belonging to a patient or failed to take precautions to prevent such misappropriation in that the RN took a card of Hydromorpbone and the count sheet during an audit and reported to another nurse the patient had too many cards. The RN’s conduct was likely to defraud the facility and patients thereof of the cost of the medications.
On or about March 13, 2018, while employed as a Registered Nurse in the role of Director of Nursing, the RN misappropriated Hydromorphone belonging to a patient or failed to take precautions to prevent such misappropriation in that the RN took a blister pack of hydromorphone and told another nurse she would return the medication, however, the RN did not return the medication. The RN’s conduct was likely to defraud the facility and patients thereof of the cost of the medications.
On or about March 15, 2018, while employed as a Registered Nurse in the role of Director of Nursing, the RN misappropriated six (6) tablets of Hydromorphone belonging to another patient or failed to take precautions to prevent such misappropriation in that the RN took a blister pack of Hydromorphone and count sheet during an audit and later returned the blister pack and reported to another nurse she removed six (6) tablets because the RN spilled water on them. The RN did not obtain a witness signature for the waste. The RN’s conduct was likely to defraud the facility and patients thereof of the cost of the medications and the RN’s conduct violated the minimum standards regarding wastage of medications.
In response, the RN denies misappropriation, however, she admits her paperwork and procedures were sloppy. The RN states she removed the medications during audits and placed the medications in a locked cabinet that held the unused, expired, and returned narcotics. The RN states she frequently did narcotic audits due to allegations and rumors of narcotic misappropriation at the facility. Furthermore, the RN admits to failing to sign for the six pills she spilled water on.
The Texas Board of Nursing decided to revoke her license as a result of her actions. It’s because she failed to hire a good nurse attorney for the case, which is why her defense was not matched with the evidence that the Board possesses.
