At the time of the initial incident, an RN was employed as a Registered Nurse at a hospital in Arlington, Texas, and had been in that position for two (2) weeks.

On or about May 13, 2016, and May 14, 2016, while employed as a Registered Nurse, the RN withdrew three (3) tablets of Ambien 5mg, two (2) tablets of Nor o 5/325mg, two (2) tablets of Zofran 4mg and one (1) tablet of Ativan Img from e medication dispensing system for patients, but failed to document, and/or completely d accurately document, the administration of the medications in the patients’ Medicati n Administration Records and/or nurse’s notes. The RN’s conduct was likely to injure the patients in that subsequent caregivers would rely on her documentation to further medicate the patients, which could result in an overdose. Additionally, the RN’s conduct placed the hospital in violation of Chapter 481 (Controlled Substances Act) of the Texas Heath a d Safety Code.

On or about May 13, 2016, and May 14, 2016, the RN withdrew three (3) tablets of Ambien 5mg, two (2) tablets of No r5/325mg, two (2) tablets of Zofran 4mg, and one (1) tablet of Ativan 1 mg from e medication dispensing system for patients, but failed to follow the facility’s policy and procedures for wastage of the unused portions of the medications. The RN’s conduct left medications unaccounted for was likely to deceive the hospital pharmacy and placed the pharmacy in violation of Chapter 481 (Controlled Substances Act) of the Texas Health and Safety Code.

The Texas Board of Nursing (BON) gave the RN the chance to defend herself. However, she was not able to provide a good defense for herself, especially when the drug screening results were brought up to her. Therefore, the Board placed her RN license to disciplinary action instead.
