It is a nurse’s duty to ensure patients are getting the proper treatment they need in a timely manner. They should also follow the physician’s order and no order should be missed. A missed order could harm a patient. Some RNs tend to miss orders and result in unnecessary harm to a patient. If this happens, an RN should be prepared in case he or she will be summoned by the Board for such conduct. An RN can hire a nurse attorney for this matter.
On or about March 10, 2020, while employed as an RN at a hospital in Sugar Land, Texas, RN did the following:
- RN failed to administer and/or failed to ensure the administration of propranolol to a resident, as ordered. RN’s conduct was likely to injure the patient in that the failure to administer medications as ordered could have resulted in non-efficacious treatment.
- RN failed to follow physician orders when he improperly held the administration of midodrine to a resident, whose recorded blood pressure was 104/78. The physician order for the aforementioned patient stated to hold the medication for blood pressure greater than 110/50. RN’s conduct was likely to injure the patient in that the failure to administer medications as ordered could have resulted in non-efficacious treatment.
- RN failed to administer and/or document the administration of insulin and failed to perform blood glucose monitoring and/or failed to document the blood glucose monitoring results to five (5) different residents. RN’s conduct was likely to injure the patient in that the failure to follow physician orders could have resulted in non-efficacious treatment.
The above actions constitute grounds for disciplinary action in accordance with Section 301.452(b)(10)&(13), Texas Occupations Code, and is a violation of 22 TEX. ADMIN. CODE §217.11(1)(A),(1)(C),(1)(D),(1)(M)&(1)(U) and 22 TEX. ADMIN. CODE §217.12(1)(A),(1)(B)&(4).
However, without valid evidence to defend his side of the story, the RN lost the case. Furthermore, the RN failed to hire a Texas nurse attorney to help him with his case. Because of this, the Texas Board of Nursing disciplined the RN’s license.
