An experienced Amarillo nurse attorney has surely helped a lot of RNs and LVNs when it comes to cases that may lead toward disciplinary action. Unfortunately, not all nurses were able to hire a nurse attorney as they underwent such cases. This incident that an RN committed in 2004, was one of those examples. R100462N9929
On or about September 2004, through November 2004, the RN from Amarillo, Texas lacked fitness to practice nursing in that she was treated for alcohol dependency. Her conduct could have affected her ability to recognize subtle signs, symptoms or changes patients’ conditions, and could have affected her ability to make rational, accurate, and appropriate assessments, judgments, and decisions regarding patient care, thereby placing the patients in potential danger.
On or about July 4, 2009, the RN failed to appropriately verify a patient’s identity before infusing Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC’s), resulting in a patient receiving PRBCs intended for another patient. Her conduct was likely to injure the patient, who may have received incompatible blood products that could have resulted in a reaction including fever, chills, pruritus and even loss of conscientiousness.
On or about July 14, 2009, the RN lacked fitness to practice nursing in that she admitted that she had been drinking alcohol since completion of rehab.
Because of this, a complaint was filed against the RN. The Texas Board of Nursing has full jurisdiction over all cases regarding errors committed by an RN or LVN.
The following incident and defense against the case caused the Texas Board of Nursing to place the RN and her license into disciplinary proceedings. She would have sought assistance from a good criminal nurse attorney to provide clarifications towards the case.
