Losing your license may greatly affect your future career, but only if you failed to hire a nurse attorney for the case. There are some RNs and LVNs who missed their chances to get their license saved from revocation just because they weren’t able to hire any nurse attorney to defend them. Unfortunately, this RN from La Marque, Texas happens to be one of them.
On or about August 2009, through September 2016, the RN performed treatments for clients including colonic irrigations, ozone therapy, and ionic footbaths, without adequate physician supervision. Colonic irrigation is considered a nonsurgical medical cosmetic procedure by the Texas Medical Board.
Subsequently, on March 3, 2017, the RN was issued an Agreed Cease and Desist Order by the Texas Medical Board. Her conduct exposed the public to a risk of harm from procedures performed without sufficient medical supervision.
Because of this, the RN was summoned by the Texas Board of Nursing. During the defense, the RN states that she previously offered colon hydrotherapy under physician prescription, various forms of ozone therapy, and access to ionic foot baths. She states that she provided the colon hydrotherapy services under the supervision of a physician. The RN further states she had the training to do so from the International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy, and always did so pursuant to the prescription of a physician and under the physician’s supervision.
The RN states that she did not advertise in print publications or identify herself as a physician or nurse via any medium. She adds that the website which has been closed since 2016, included a clear directive that the information provided by her business was not intended to substitute for advice from a physician.
However, she failed to hire the best attorney that would defend her side.
Unfortunately, without the lack of an effective nurse attorney to defend her case, the Texas Board of Nursing decided to take disciplinary action against the RN.
