Whenever someone filed a complaint against you, your license could be put in danger if not defended by a nurse attorney. This is exactly what happened to an RN in Brownsville when she was accused of misappropriation of medicine. During the time of the initial incident, the LVN was employed as a staff nurse in a hospital in Fort Worth and had been in that position for more than two years already.

An RN was employed as a Registered Nurse at a hospital in Brownsville, Texas, and had been in that position for two (2) years and nine (9) months.

It was on or about November 2017, the RN misappropriated Lidocaine and syringes from the facility and patients thereof in that the RN admitted to the Preoperative Coordinator, Chief Nursing Officer, and Human Resources Manager, that she misappropriated the supplies. The RN’s conduct was likely to defraud the facility and patients thereof of the cost of the medications.

In response, the RN admits to leaving work with a single use of Lidocaine and syringe. She states the protocol was to sign out lidocaine at the beginning of the shift and keep it in your pocket throughout the day to use on patients prior to IV administration. She states she always kept extra IV catheters in her pocket just in case she was unsuccessful on the first try. The RN states at the end of the day she should have thrown away/disposed of the remainder but she accidentally took these items home in her pocket.

The accusation towards the RN could have been defended by a nurse attorney who has the experience and skills in dealing such accusation case. The incident above had resulted in the RN being taken into disciplinary action by the Texas Board of Nursing.
